Things to do in Orvieto

Stay in our beautiful vacation home and visit the Duomo di Orvieto is a famous cathedral, containing design elements from the thirteenth to twentieth centuries. The large rose windows, golden mosaics, bronze doors and beautiful paintings are all apart of this magnificent church. It is considered by some to be the finest Cathedral in Italy.

In the old town you can visit St.Patrick’s Well, built in 1527 based on a plan of Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane. Not far away you can visit the Palace of the Seven from 1300, the Palace of People (12th Century), Saint Andrew’s Church (12th Century), Saint Domenic’s Church (12th Century) and Saint Giovenale’s Church (11th Century). Museums in the area include Soliano Palace museums: the Museum of the Opera del Duomo and the Museum of Modern Art (Museo d’Arte Moderna Emilio Greco). Live entertainment can be enjoyed at the Mancinelli Theatre (1866) throughout most of the year. Ancient history can be explored through the Underground City and the Necropolis of the Crucifix of Tufo dating back to the Etruscan period. All of these amazing sites are within the town of Orvieto.

In keeping with Italy’s jazz tradition, the Umbria Jazz Winter Festival is held every year in Orvieto and has become a global platform for jazz artists.
